Spring update/exhibition

IMG_2265IMG_2322IMG_2317IMG_2309IMG_2294Here we are in early Spring, the year is flying in already! It’s not been a bad winter on the edge of Perthshire!

I finished the Kreisler Guarneri del Gesu 1730.  It has been picked up and is now residing in Munich, Germany.  I was very pleased with the sound of this particular instrument.  Just about to finish a Lord Wilton Guarneri.  I have not made this particular model for many years and it’s been a challenge, but one I have enjoyed immensely, particularly the scroll carving.  In my opinion this late Guarneri shows del Gesu at the peak of his powers, very free, strong and powerful woodwork.  It has a beautiful one piece back and I had to go though my wood store to find some backs that matched the original, the customer choice a particularly lovely one.  Just got the varnish to pull off now!

Heading off to the BVMA Exhibition in London this weekend at Kings Place, 90 York Way, Kings Cross, where I will be exhibiting a violin and a viola. Please come along and try one if you are in the area.  After the BVMA on Tuesday night I am going to see Nigel Kennedy at The Albert Hall.  Looking forward to seeing the maverick violinist again, I am sure it will be a real treat.
