Strad Magazine and New Viola
The month of May has come round quickly! I was delighted to be featured in the May issue of Strad Magazine My Space. It took a lot of organising, getting together photographs of the workshop that the Strad were happy with, but thanks to photographer and film maker Michael Rae who gave a lot of his time and enthusiasm, the workshop looked fantastic and I’m delighted with the end result.
I’ve included some pictures of the viola at the window in my gallery. The viola is based on Paolo Maggini Brescia, an instrument I have made regularly and is just a wonderful viola with a warm, bright sound, as a viola should sound!
On the bench at the moment is a copy violin of Antonio Stradivari 1715 (ex Joachim). I will be closing the box this weekend and cracking on with the scroll, to see the progress of my latest Strad violin you can check out the gallery or updates on my Facebook page. If you want to hear the original Joachim/Cremonese violin, check out David Garrett at Museo del Violino in Cremona. He tries out two Strads and a Guarneri but the the 1715 violin stands out for me and it’s definitely worth a look.
